We’ve all had it at one point or another… Writer’s block.
The dreaded thing every writer is scared off. Imagine sitting down at your desk thinking of writing the most awesomest (is awesomest a word?) story ever but nothing comes to mind in order for your fingers to write.
Here I am, your rescuer. I will give you some tips on how to get some inspiration to write a blog post.
Short answer; Here are the 5 tips to get awesome blog post ideas
- Do a lot of reading
- Take notes
- Take inspiration from other bloggers
- Share your experience
- Put a new coat on an existing article
1. Do a lot of reading
The first thing I want to mention actually reminds me of my previous article where I talked about the 5 basic principles for success and making money.
If you want to succeed in life you have to invest in yourself. A way of doing that is by reading a lot of books. The most successful men and women read about 50 books a year. That is a lot of content.
This also means that you can get ideas from the books you are reading.
Challenge: Go to your nearest bookstore and grab a book but please don’t grab Twilight or a similar romance book. Grab a book that will benefit your personal or business life.
2. Take notes
Here’s a scenario; You are in the supermarket doing groceries. You see tomato and suddenly you get an awesome idea to write about the color red and what it means. You come up with definitions and already know which articles you can relate to. This article is going to be the best article you’ve ever written. You will be praised by the Gods of the internet and you’ll be crowned KING by Bill Gates. (Bill, if you’re reading this… I’m still waiting for my crown).
But then you come home and you can’t remember what you came up with at the supermarket. No matter how hard you think it’s just gone. Bye bye crown.
If you take notes whenever you get an idea to write you’ll end up with a notepad full of ideas that you actually will not know where to start. So try taking notes every now and then.
Challenge: Buy a notepad which is very small and put it in your pocket. Make sure you always have it with you along with a pencil. Whenever you have an idea (how stupid it’ll be doesn’t matter) write it down. You can also try an app on your smartphone.
3. Take inspiration from other bloggers
This is going to be a short one. Don’t steal because that’s plagiarism. If you want to write about a cool idea you have, you can look around other blogs to see what they have written about the subject.
There are tons and tons of website that covers tons and tons of subject so whatever you want to write about chances are that someone already did. That is not a bad thing. That just means you have some inspiration to write to your readers.
Challenge: Go to my favorite inspiration website buzzsumo.com and search for a topic you want to write a blog about. I know you’re going to find a HUGE list of ideas.
4. Share your experience
Every day you go through either a dilemma or some joy or a new experience. Either way, you learn something every day and if you aren’t learning something new every day then you are doing something wrong. I have discussed in my previous article, the 5 basic principles for success and making money, that you should invest in yourself.
Because you’re investing in yourself you get a lot of experience and knowledge. You don’t have to hide the fact that you’re still learning and that there are still a lot of things that you don’t know or just finding out. You’re not the only one.
So write about it. Write about your experience when you saw that same tomato in the supermarket and how it thrilled you to write about an article.
Have you signed up for a new course? Write your experience with that and what you have learned about it.
Challenge: Examine your week and what you have been doing or what you will be doing. There is definitely something that might be interesting for the readers to learn about. Once you find something… write about it.
5. Put a new coat on an existing article
This is actually a very important tip that you already should be doing. Every article you have written might be obsolete as time goes by because a lot of things change.
The iOs review you did 2 years ago is not relevant anymore because 2 new versions have come up which can give you 2 new articles or the marketing strategy article you have written is also obsolete because the way people read has changed.
You can look at an old article you have written and perhaps notice some key points that you might have been mistaken on and can improve it.
Challenge: Take a look at your old articles if you have any. Scan if there are some articles you can either update or rewrite with new information.
I hope these tips benefit you in some way or another. I also have sometimes trouble to find about a topic I can write about and these tips have saved me a lot of searching and digging.
Feel free to leave a comment and maybe share your most awesomest (still not a word) article.
Looking forward to it.
